So there I was watching the women's channel...Love this channel. Anyway, Dirty Dancing came on. I was 13 when I first watched this movie. YOWZERS!!! It's funny how old the actors were....most current teen movies have actors at least in their early 20's..

So where was I ..

LiveBinders...

Lit Maven, where is this going?

Well...Brainstorm moment....

How about using LiveBinders in the classroom as a method of reader(viewer)response?

If I was creating a Dirty Dancing LiveBinder, I would have tabs for:

-Character
-Setting
-Plot

Then BONUS FEATURE TABS!!!
-Songs from the movie (Uploaded from YouTube)
-Where are they now?
-Actor interviews
-Sequels
-Other songs inspired by the movie.

I could go on and on.....

So try this with books too!
-have students create a soundtrack
-Upload a book trailer for one tab
-Include a personal response...

Is this COOL or WHAT?

Besides nobody puts my LiveBinder in the corner....nobody!

The Lit Maven Wants Her Crayons Back!

Wowzers! As my prof would say, "Fall is kicking me in the butt."

I was on a blogging marathon and then BOOM!...

Now...like all viruses I am back.

All I needed was a dose of inspiration. For those of you who don't know, I am an artist. Here is one of my "dot-a-llages". (A collage of "punch holed" magazine dots.)




I do this for no other reason than it balances me out. I forgot that I needed this and stopped cold turkey a few weeks back. Then I read this, How to Be Creative by Hugh Macleod.

Hugh writes that we all got crayons in kindergarten. Slowly are creative bugs are replaced with textbooks, jobs, families...But the voice of creativity lingers under the surface. Hugh says:

Your wee voice came back because your soul somehow depends on it.

So I am back listening to my wee voice and reaching out to you...

So...I was out at the movies last night. Not like I wasn't busy..but we all have to take a break once in awhile...

I saw Moneyball....

I had a lot of thoughts....

One was...
How come Rob Lowe can be 3 months younger than Pitt...but look much more youthful?







I guess 6 kids will do that to you.

Anyway...

Today's point
Billy Beane: There are rich teams and there are poor teams, then there's fifty-feet of crap, and then there's us.



This is very much like the state of education. There is always need for more money and more resources. But is it really that we need more resources or are we asking the wrong question?

The question might be...DRUM ROLL

How best to use the resources we already have?!

And what we have is...

LiveBinders?...George Costanza Would Say Yes!

So I have thinking about LiveBinders and what they mean in my life..

I got to thinking about Junior High...

I had to attend junior high when perms or crimped hair were a must.

Note: This is Spike from my beloved Degrassi Junior High, circa 1987.

Spike and I look much better than we did back then...YAY!

Anyway...I remember every year we had to buy reinforcements.

These ones


Not these ones...


Those reinforcements inevitably broke out of their flimsy cardboard case, spilled in your locker and landed on your "cosby" sweater



...only to be noticed on the way home from school.

Yes! That is why they pointed at you.

Reinforcements...the cheap ones...the ones I got, anyway...

were "self" adhesive...meaning...Saliva Powered!

Here lies the problem...not only is this a gross way to fix binder tears but it is also very dangerous...

This brings me to George. George would have wished that Susan had sent e-vites instead of licking all those stamps.

Use LiveBinder...Don't be a Susan!
